Editorial manifesto

The press, returned to the author.

DANASA was born from discomfort: on-demand publishing had turned into an impersonal transaction — rigid templates, opaque commissions, cold distribution. We wanted something else.

What we do

A print-on-demand platform that prints with Lulu and also sells EPUBs, with a storefront and book pages in nine languages.

For typesetting there's DANASA Studio, our free desktop app for Mac and Windows, which understands widows, orphans and rivers in real time. On the web, authors upload their PDF and cover — and their EPUB, if they sell one — pick format and price, and publish.

Then each copy is printed when someone buys it, and the printer ships it to their address. No stock, no waste.

Editorial principles

Four things we believe.

  1. Typography is respect.

    Every page must breathe. Poorly laid-out text doesn't just read worse — it disrespects the reader and degrades the author.

  2. The work belongs to the author.

    Manuscript rights never change hands. Authors can withdraw their book, sell on Amazon in parallel, or change platforms whenever they want.

  3. Transparent margins.

    We charge no commission on the sale. Printing, payment processing (3.9% + 30¢ per order) and a fixed $0.75 USD per printed copy come out of the price, and authors see that breakdown before they publish. We take the payment through Stripe and transfer the rest to the author's Stripe Connect account.

  4. Craft over algorithm.

    We don't reorder the catalog to maximize clicks. We don't charge for placement. Readers find books by merit, not by bid.

How we got here.

DANASA is an independent project born in 2024 from a writer tired of seeing their work laid out like a form. It started as a LaTeX script library and became an editorial platform.

In 2026 we opened the public catalog with DANASA Studio — the typesetter, free and on your desktop — printing by Lulu, payouts through Stripe Connect, and a storefront in nine languages for readers who collect — not just consume.

We prioritize craft over scale. The author decides when their book is ready, and if they lay it out in DANASA Studio, the app points out what the typography hasn't resolved yet.
